7 March 2011 Young athletes inspired to go for gold at paralympic sports fayre

Disabled sports fans of all ages and abilities will have the chance to demonstrate their sporting talents in West London today, as they try out activities including wheelchair basketball, judo, dance, table tennis and table cricket at an event to celebrate Paralympic sport.

Sports enthusiast and London Trailblazer Taz Virdee from Hillingdon is behind the event at Brunel University. He is co-ordinating the event with DASH (Disablement Association Hillingdon) and Brunel University. Over the past year he has campaigned on better access to leisure facilities with the Trailblazers Calling Time campaign..

 London Trailblazer, Taz Virdee said:

I hope that today's event will encourage disabled people young and old to get involved in sport and get behind the 2012 Paralympics.

The build up to the 2012 Olympics is well under way. Now we have a challenge on our hands to get people across London excited about the Paralympics too.

There are so many great sporting opportunities for disabled people in the capital - everything from Wheelchair football clubs to disability street dance groups are going strong around us.

Tanvi Vyas, Trailblazers Campaigns Officer said:

Universities and sports centres have a big part to play in ensuring Britain continues to produce amazing paralympic talent, by providing sports grounds, gyms, swimming pools and leisure centres that are fully accessible for disabled users.

Taking part in sports improves people's health, confidence and social skills - there is every reason to get involved.
