7 October 2014 Fantastic feedback from our work experience project
Trailblazers have been running a work experience project at our office in London for nearly two years now. In that time we've been lucky enough to have many fantastic Trailblazers come in and do some work experience with us.
Trailblazers have been working with the various departments within our charity to help us deliver the best support possible for people with neuromuscular conditions. As is often said; "nothing for us without us".
We offer Trailblazers the chance to develop useful skills that employers look for in a wide variety of roles. From corporate fundraising to financial accounting, advocacy services to political campaigning, we provide work experience that is genuinely useful.
We have also been helping Trailblazers to develop job application and interview techniques to help them gain employment when their work experience with us comes to an end.
This all happens in an office environment that is welcoming, warm and friendly, with staff that are focused on helping the charity thrive. But don't just take our word for it, here are some quotes from people who have done work experience with us:
I improved my communication and presentation skills, which gave me a boost in confidence. I feel I gained a better understanding of the charity sector and the importance it plays in our society. – Matilda Ibini (now in further education)
I developed a lot of campaigning skills as well as administrative skills. I feel confident writing news stories and doing other computer based tasks. I've also developed better communication skills. – Luke Baily (currently on a work placement)
I thoroughly enjoyed my time at the MDC office and would recommend anyone to try and get involved. I always looked forward to the time I would spend at MDC and everyone was very welcoming, friendly and professional. – Elora Kadir (now in further education)
I found it enjoyable working as a team and seeing what goes on at the muscular dystrophy campaign. There was nothing that I didn't enjoy. – Benjamin James (now in further education)
The people were extremely friendly and welcoming which made it an enjoyable office environment to enter. I had a hand in organizing regional events and this involved contacting various locations to hold the events as well as various people to speak at the event. – Kushal Pandya (currently in employment)
The aspect that I enjoyed the most about work experience was working in the office environment and knowing that you were doing something of value for the charity. – Joshua Langley (now in further education)

Unfortunately we are not able to offer work experience to people living too far outside of London. However, we are currently exploring the possibility of changing this. We've been talking to some of our supporters and are trying to arrange nationwide work placements for Trailblazers with companies like Barclays Bank, Santander, Kleinwort Benson, Nationwide, Jaguar Landrover, Rolls Royce, Dairy Crest and Ben & Jerry's!
It would really help us get this off the ground if you could fill out this survey!
