21 September 2012 Air travel investigation is taking off

Trailblazers' air travel investigation is well under way  with almost 100 passengers already having shared their experiences of air travel and disability.

However, with such a tight turnaround on this particular investigation we are now making one final call for submissions to our survey. The deadline for the survey is Tuesday 25th September.

The reason for the tight deadline on this project is our upcoming APPG evidence session in Parliament on October 24th, where Trailblazers will be launching an air travel report and putting questions to experts from the air industry. We have already received confirmations for the session from Boeing, the Civil Aviation Authority and plane architects PristmanGoode, as well as many Members of the House of Commons and Lords.

In 2010 Trailblazers launched the All Inclusive? report on tourism. The report revealed that one aspect of tourism that was still very much an issue for disabled people was air travel. Over the past two years we have heard countless stories and examples of some good and often very poor service from airlines.

Complete our airlines survey!

Issues have included:

  • the poor care and carriage of wheelchairs
  • a lack of staff disability awareness and training on carrying passengers to and from plane seats
  • and policies that make it almost impossible for powered wheelchairs  to be taken on some airlines.

To find out more about the airline investigation and the All Party Parliamentary Group meeting on air travel get in touch.
